Our story
Built by a parent coach,
for parent coaches.
My kids play sport every weekend — and for a while, I kept thinking about putting my hand up to coach. But I held back. Not because I didn't care or want to, but because I genuinely didn't know how to run a training session that would actually engage a group of kids. I only played team sports briefly back at school, and that was a long time ago.
That feeling — wanting to help but not feeling confident enough — is exactly where MyKidsCoach came from. I built it because I needed it. And the more I've learned about drills, session structure, and age-appropriate coaching through building this platform, the more I'm looking forward to actually stepping up and coaching one day soon.
I knew I wasn't alone in that feeling. Across AFL, basketball, cricket, soccer and more, thousands of mums, dads, and siblings volunteer every season — not because they're experts, but because someone has to, and they love their family. Most of them are winging it. They deserve better.
So I built MyKidsCoach — a tool that creates a complete, age-appropriate training session in under a minute. Every plan is structured around the official frameworks from Australia's sporting bodies (AFL, Basketball Australia, Cricket Australia, Netball Australia, Football Australia and more), written in plain English, with exactly what to say and do, step by step.
No jargon. No assumptions you've played the sport before. Just a clear plan, a few coaching cues, and a session the kids will actually enjoy.
MyKidsCoach is built and run from Bayside, Melbourne. It's still early days — I'm building this one feature at a time, often based directly on feedback from volunteer coaches like you. If something's not quite right, or there's a feature that would make your coaching life easier, I'd genuinely love to hear from you at james@mykidscoach.com.au or by using the feedback feature in the app.
